Tuesday, August 22, 2006 ![]() the famous long-queue cuttlefish kangkong at Bedok South! parents decided to go there to try it 1 evening and see wat the hype is all about. true to it, there was already a long queue there although we reached ard 5+! had to queue for ard 45mins before we managed to get our share. it comes in either $3/4 portions and optional beehoon if u want. the cuttlefish is very fresh and springy without being too hard, and the kang kong is crunchy without being overcooked. the sauce is also very sufficient, but it tastes a little too much like the yong tau foo sauce with peanuts? but overall, not bad, worth a short queue if u like this dish. definitely should not clash with the makan times! Blk 16 Bedok South Ave 2 (juz opp TJC) i forgot the stall name, but if u see the queue and the stall selling only dis dish, dats it. Rating: 3.5/5 ![]()
fried rice from the bubble tea shop in bugis! alot of frenz came here for their lunch/dinner and order this, instead of the claypot rice and hongkong mee that they offer. their fried rice is pretty tasty, and the rice is not too dry. it comes with grilled honey chicken wings which is pretty flavourful too. but my frenz like their sambal best, spicy and not too oily. good to mix with the rice. can try if u are looking for a quick meal in that area. Tea Shake Hut (outside of bugis junction, next to Nature's farm) $5 (not including drink i tink) Rating: 3/5 Saturday, August 05, 2006 ![]() ![]() went for lunch with parents at this coffeeshop at kovan, coz dad said the beef noodle stall there is very famous. so me and dad both ordered a bowl each, mine is the dry mixed version (which includes beef slices and beef tripes) which is only yellow noodles (in the 1st picture), and dad's the dry mixed version with mixture of kway teow and beehoon. well, overall its not dat bad. the sauce is thick and flavourful, there are sufficient beef slices and the portions are pretty filling (it comes in $3/4/5). their chilli is oso pretty fiery, and coupled with the peppery sauce, it gives quite a kick! however, i tink their soup is pretty average only, the beef flavour isn't very prominent, and also the herbal flavour. mum ate the char kway teow at another stall in the same hawker centre. her comments were that it was nothing very special, and they were pretty stingy with the ingredients. much better ones can be found elsewhere. Beef noodle stall (the only one there) the coffeeshop at kovan, abt 5 mins from heartland mall towards ntuc, facing a clinic on the left Rating: 3/5 Tuesday, August 01, 2006 ![]() A special tribute to my mum's special chicken soup! Well, the basics are pretty much the same, chicken+water+herbs, but for this particular soup, she added pig kidneys (coz our whole family likes it, and it strengthens the kidneys too), pork-ribs (not sure what is it for, probably to make it sweeter and have more meat?) and gingko nuts+wolfberries+barley (to make it sweeter i guess). Special eh? How did it taste? Very good! i love the kidneys, esp coz it isnt cooked together with the soup, but just added to the boiling soup when you want to eat it so it wun turn hard and shrink to half its size! All in all, its 1 of the nicest soups i drank so far, thanks mum! |
