Mississippi mudpie from Cafe Cartel. They claimed it to be the original. Well, i didnt get to try the real ones in Mississippi, so I couldnt fault much on that statement. Basically, it was chocolate cake (abit like a pound cake kinda texture) that was infused with alcohol (probably a brandy or whisky). It was accompanied with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a hard round candy kinda thing on top of the ice cream and drizzles of chocolate sauce and chopped nuts. Oh! and whipped cream on top of the cake! Overall, kinda fattening, but not a bad experience.

Went to try out the bak chor mee stall at syed alwi road last sat with parents, coz it was featured in the ch 8 show Star Choice and it looks not bad....so we went to try it out. The wait was horrendous man! We had to wait half an hr just for 3 bowls of noodles! It must have been the publicity they got and the limited space they have. The noodles weren't too fantastic though. It was slightly special becoz instead of the usual tomato ketchup or chilli sauce, you can also add their special (i think) dark sauce to the noodles. The ingredients are pretty sufficient enough though. Other than the usual minced meat (bak chor), mushroom, pork lard, fishcake and lettuce, there are also fishballs and pork slices. Their sambal chilli is pretty special too. Its very dry and is fried with dried shrimps and pork lard (i think). Not the usual kind of sambal. Won't say i like it much, although it goes ok with the noodles. My advice, don't go if you can't stand heat or are rushing for time. Saw a few people came and went because they couldn't stand the waiting time.

Rosti at Marche Heeren. Was shopping at Heeren after having the oh-so-fattening choc addiction cake and mango float (see below) when i suddenly got a craving for rosti. So went Marche at the basement to get some of the yummy 'fried' potato 'strings'. Can't think of any other place i can get it other than Marche and supermarkets. And since i am outside, theres no way i can whip up a rosti on my own right? So decided to let the chefs do the job for me while i just sit back and relax! But at 4.70 a plate, it was pretty expensive. But oh well, nobody said Marche was cheap right? Indulgence! But yesterday's rosti wasnt really perfect. The top crispy brown layer was ok, but a little too hard instead of crispy. The bottom white coloured potato layer was abit too soft. Maybe it was supposed to be that way, but i prefer my potatoes a little crunchier. Oh well. Had a plate of fruits and a wild mushroom soup (sorry no pics!) so dat i can make up 10 bucks to pay by Nets. lol madness!

Mango Tango Float

Chocolate Addiction cake

Was actually craving for chocolate lava cake (or something similar) after Katong laksa (sorry no pics again!). Went around Katong but couldnt find a place that sells it. Suddenly thought of a friend telling me that NYDC's cakes and mudpies were good, so decided to give it a try. Hopped on a bus from Katong all the way to town. Went to the NYDC cafe outside Heeren. It was a longish kinda cafe, and the cakes display was on 1 side whereas we sat on the other side. So cheeky me decided to try my luck and order from the picture-less menu instead of walking the other side to the cakes counter to choose my cake. So there was the chocolate addiction cake! Well, it wasn't what i wanted it to be though. It is basically a cake with a layer of chocolate mousse at the bottom, a thin layer of vanilla sponge in the middle, and a layer of white choc mousse (same thickness as the normal chocolate mousse below) on top of it. And it was topped with a layer of powdered sugar and cocoa powder. It was ok to me, nothing so fantastic, but can do. Enough to satisfy a chocoholic with no qualms about getting fat. :) to accompany that, i had a Mango Tango Float (wanted something fruity lah). It was basically soda with a scoop of Mango Tango ice cream in it. Wanted a lemonade at first, but my friend wanted to share this float, so we got it instead. No way i am gonna finish two fattening concoctions myself! The mango ice cream was ok, nothing compared to American ice creams like Ben & Jerry's or Italian gelato, but i guess there is still a distinct mango flavour to some extent. So considering that there are places who actually dare to sell mango ice cream that only smells like mango and don't really taste like mango, this isn't too bad. When mixed with the soda, the result is a milky concoction that has the taste of, yeah u got it, mango soda! Hmmz... wasn't too bad though, if you aren't eating anything creamy before that. Creamy+creamy=fat! yah yah, i know...how can REAL foodies be daunted by extra grams of fat right?? :)

(clockwise from left, rainbow jelly,
mango pudding, 1/2 eaten durian pudding)

Thai Desserts at Sakura Thai Restaurant at Eastpoint.

Was walking around simei eastpoint to digest my NZ Natural ice cream. Spotted this restaurant at one corner, and they were selling the desserts at 3 for $1.25. So i cant possibly skip the offer rite??? haha so we chose 3 desserts, the rainbow jelly, mango pudding and durian pudding. We chose these 3 probably coz the rest are not to our liking. Nothing very special about them though. The durian pudding was ok, with durian flavours that were strong, but not too strong. But the mango pudding was quite a let-down. The pudding had absolutely no mango taste at all, and the only hint of mango was a tiny slice embedded in the small slice of agar-agar on top of the pudding. The rainbow jelly is ok only. Taste like normal multi-layered agar agar with alternate layers of agar agar and jelly with coconut milk in it. Overall, pretty average stuff. Curious to try the food they serve in the restaurant though.
