went Marmalade Pantry with 3 of my friends for our 4th monthly gathering. alot of pple blogged about it before, so shall keep this short and concise. before i reached, they had already ordered a salad consisting of 2 types of lettuce (romaine and iceberg i think), croutons, chicken bits and some others that i cant remember. i didnt really fancy it coz too many raw greens kinda put me off. we each den ordered a main course. i had the linguini with tomato sauce (1st pic), and my other friends had the cheese burger with fries (2nd pic), penne with butternut and pesto (3rd pic) and teriyaki salmon with chilled soba (4th pic).

the linguini is cooked al dente, which is juz right for me, not too hard, not too soft. the tomato sauce is not bad too, but nothing to rave about. the cheese burger was quite a letdown. the beef patty is too hard and dry for my liking, but my friend said the burger bun was not bad. the fries tasted average to me too, like any other normal american cafe fries, but another friend said it was not bad. both the linguini and cheese burger were kids size, but the portions are big enough to feed a not too starving adult.

the penne is also done al dente, and my friend said the sauce is pretty flavourful, prob due to the large number of herbs used. the chilled soba, my friend commented, wasn't DAT chilled. it was more of at room temperature. but the teriyaki salmon was not bad. it wasnt over done, as it still has a little bit of pink in the middle, but is also fresh. and as the soba sauce was pretty little, the teriyaki flavour of the salmon complemented the otherwise tasteless soba.

the grand finale was of coz the desserts that Marmalade Pantry is famous for! as we were pretty full by den, we shared the apple and rhubarb crumble (5th pic) and the sticky toffee date pudding (6th pic), both were served with vanilla ice cream. we all swore by the awesome mixture of hot and cold in a plate! the crumble was piping hot when served, with the top layer crusty and nutty, and in it was the soft and sour pieces of apple and rhubarb. we poured the ice cream on top of it and ate both together, heavenly! the sticky date toffee pudding was even better. the pudding was also piping hot, and it was soft and sweet, but not cloyingly sweet dat it masks the taste of vanilla in the ice cream. hot + cold really makes a good combination!
