Brought my friend to try the famous hainan curry rice at the junction of eng hoon st and lim liak st. Knew about it through this food programme on tv and wanted to give it a try. We went there at around 1+, and it was quite crowded (prob due to lunch hr?), so i had to queue for abt 5-10mins while my friend scouted for a free table. As we were planning to eat other stuff after this, so i didnt order much. We just had 2 plates of curry rice, a plate of sambal sotong and a plate of cabbage to share (pictures above). The sotong was 1 of its famous dishes, nearly every table ordered it. It was pretty good, i must say, not too rubbery or hard, and the sambal is spicy but not overpowering. The cabbage is not bad too, not too soft and not undercooked, with a kinda sweet-salty sauce. The curry, my friend commented, was very good. Thick and spicy enough, and i can last thru half a plate of rice before taking a few sips of my drink, as compared to some others where i need to drink a few sips every few mouthfuls of rice. But prices are a little steep, we paid a total of $4.80, not including drinks. I guess u have to pay for quality though.
